Our Story
Westhaven Community boasts a rich and unique history dating back to 1913. It began as the Swedish Old Folks’ Home, a dedicated establishment designed to provide a warm and welcoming residence for retired Swedish Evangelical Free Church pastors. This initiative was born out of a commitment to serve those who had devoted their lives to spiritual leadership, offering them a peaceful environment to enjoy their retirement years.
For many decades, the facility thrived, nurturing its residents and fostering camaraderie among those with similar backgrounds and experiences. As the community evolved over the years, so did our mission, leading to a significant transformation in our identity. In the early 2000s, in recognition of the changing needs of the greater community, we rebranded ourselves as Westhaven Community. This pivotal change allowed us to extend our warmth and hospitality to individuals from diverse backgrounds, welcoming anyone needing support and care.
In 2012, we further embraced our commitment to service by inaugurating a new, modern building. This development enhanced our residents’ living conditions and symbolized our ongoing dedication to fostering a vibrant and inclusive community. The new facility features updated amenities and spaces designed to promote social interaction, health, and well-being, ensuring we honor our legacy while looking forward to the future.
